The event in July will feature a keynote speech from awards ambassador Selaine Saxby
Saunton Sands Hotel will be hosting a complimentary afternoon tea on Monday, July 7 for some of this year’s West Country Women Awards nominees from North Devon.
The hotel has become a venue sponsor for the 2025 awards, whose co-founder Alexis Bowater OBE will be hosting the event at Saunton, which will also feature a keynote speech from former North Devon MP Selaine Saxby.
As the region’s first female MP and an ambassador for the awards, her speech will be titled ‘Rejection, Resilience and Reinvention’.
Ms Bowater said: “I love Saunton Sands and always enjoy returning to North Devon. There are so many incredible women being nominated in Northern Devon and the awards consistently shine a light on extraordinary women.
“Having Selaine speak on building resilience I hope will be inspiring to the women present, as we all know life rarely goes quite according to plan!”
Ms Saxby ran a multi-channel retail business, selling sports bras: LessBounce.com for 15 years. As the business struggled with changes in the dot com landscape, Selaine moved into politics, losing her job working for an MP in the 2017 election.
After moving to Devon, she retrained to teach mathematics, before becoming MP and is now retraining again to become an Independent Financial Advisor alongside consulting both in Westminster and locally on projects supported during her time as MP and doing some time back in the classroom teaching maths.
She said: “I have been enjoying nominating the brilliant women I know now back home in North Devon.
“There are so many categories, nominating takes a second and those nominated get notified instantly of the nomination which is spreads joy to a woman’s inbox, one nominee responded to me “I’m beyond thrilled, happy, humbled… you name it! Thank you”
